Patchouli Pure Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Pogostemon Cablin

Method of Extraction for Patchouli Essential Oil: Steam distillation of the leaves of the plant.

Uses, recipes and mixtures for Patchouli Essential Oil:

• The essential oil of Patchouli has been used to support body tissues, a healthy attitude, and to support a healthy digestive system.
• When used in meditation Patchouli Essential Oil opens the Root Chakra.

Patchouli Body Lotion recipe:

• 4 oz Avocado or Jojoba oil
• 2 oz lanolin
• 2 oz aloe vera gel
• 6-10 drops Patchouli Essential Oil

Using a blender mix the oil and lanolin, then slowly add the aloe as you blend.

Add essential oil.

Pour into a glass food jar with a tight fitting lid, a mason jar, or similar container.

Make sure to scrape down the sides of the blender to get the lotion that sticks there.

New Mama Cream

• 1 cup shea butter
• 1/2 cup coconut oil
• 1/2 cup jojoba oil.
• 10 drops of Patchouli Essential Oil

• Directions:
  
  Create a double boiler using a glass bowl and a large pot. Put all of the ingredients (except the essential oil) in the glass bowl, fill the pot with water and put the glass bowl in the water. Turn the stove onto medium heat and melt the oils. Stir frequently while heating until all the oils have melted and the mixture is uniform. This takes about 10 minutes.
  
  Remove the glass bowl from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Chill in the fridge for 1 hour.
  
  After the hour, the mixture should be solid, but still uniform. Using a hand mixer whip, everything on medium-high speed for 10 minutes until the oils have a creamy consistency. Add the essential oils half-way through. After 10 minutes of whipping, spoon the body butter evenly among glass or plastic containers (such as mini mason jars). Put back in the fridge to chill for another hour.

Patchouli is a species from the genus Pogostemon. It is a bushy herb with small pink-white flowers and is native to tropical regions of Asia. The scent of patchouli is heavy and strong. It has been used for centuries in perfumes and is an important ingredient in East Asian incense. Both patchouli oil and incense underwent a surge in popularity in the 1960s and 1970s in the US and Europe, mainly due to the hippie movement of those decades.
