This is the extremely pungent, delicious White Sage (Salvia apiana) from the coastal mountains of California.

Also known as Buffalo Sage, bee sage or simply sacred sage it is a favorite for smudging and blessing.

Our White sage (Salvia apiana, as are our other sages and all of our wild-crafted plants) are collected in an ethical manner with respect to the plant, to the land and to the land owners. Taos Herb Company and our trusted wild-crafters have been engaged in ethical wild-crafting since 1981. We love plants, we respect plants, we depend on plants and we must collect plants in a manner that ensures that this precious plant will still be there year after year.

Our White Sage is collected from private property with permission from the property owner and permission from the plant though prayers to the plant spirit. When white Sage is collected properly, which is done by snipping just the leaf clusters (and only about 30 percent of the leaf clusters from any single plant), the process actually stimulates more growth and increases the supply of White Sage. Snipping the leaf cluster (rather than tearing of whole branches or ripping up the entire plant) causes the stem to bifurcate (split into 2 new stems) which doubles the number of leaves.

Loose Smudging White Sage Leaves - 2 lbs 02/04/2018
By Maya Sprague
I live in the Pacific Northwest, but have maternal ancestors that have come from Taos, Yselta Pueblo, NM , Mexico and Texas. I wanted to order from, support businesses and receive smudging sage from my familial origins. I received my two pounds of white sage for smudging very quickly, it was packaged carefully and the sage was perfectly dry with no apparent mold or dampness. I am used to using sage sticks, but decided to try loose sage for smudging. I was surprised at how much sage I received (perhaps I shouldn't have been because it is so lightweight) and will probably not need to purchase more for a long time. It burns extremely well, better than other smudge sticks I've used. I only needed a couple pieces (stem with leaves x 2) in my abalone shell and my home office (16' x 14') was full of aromatic smoke. I highly recommend this product and am very pleased with the service provided.

White Sage 09/14/2016
By Donnagaye Williams
I guess the reduced price makes amends for the bad quality of the sage. It was all very small, twisted and not what I was hoping for.
