About Taos Herb Company

Taos Herb Company manufactures over 400 products from organic and sustainably wildcrafted herbs. We meet FDA manufacturing standards and are a cGMP Certified facility.
In addition to this web site, we have a retail store in beautiful Taos, New Mexico, the heart of the Sangre de Cristo mountains in Northern New Mexico. We also offer wholesale service.
The rich history of the herb lore of Northern New Mexico is founded in the mid 1600's when the explorer Coronado colonized northern New Mexico. Over time, the indigenous Pueblo peoples and the Spanish settlers began to share information about the local medicinal plants.
There is a tradition in Spanish culture of people relying on Curanderas and Sobaderas for their healing needs and remedios. Locally, herbal medicine lore was handed down from each generation.
When Holy Cross Hospital was built in the 1930s in Taos people began to abandon their tradition of using medicinal herbs. As the younger generations lost interest in the elders' information and sought modern medical treatments the use of herbs began to be less familiar.
Rob, Julie, Tina and Fritz, the founders of Taos Herb Company, recognized importance of saving this tradition and, in 1981, Taos Herb Company found a niche in this "herb wise" community where the long lived, time-honored tradition using herbs for medicine was established.
Today, the Taos Herb Company is an energetic exchange of information and customized service. In addition to the manufacturing of herbally-based products, Taos Herb Company offers custom-blended extracts and teas created for Taos Herb Company customers.
Taos Herb Company is still a family-owned and operated business. We manufacture over 400 products from organic and sustainably wildcrafted herbs.
Our dedicated staff are knowledgeable in the use of herbs and supplements to help people explore natural healing options.
Rob, our most Expert Herbalist, can be found in and around the mountains practicing ethical and sustainable wildcrafting. Rob hosts Herb Walks every summer, where he teaches the technique of ethical and sustainable wildcrafting and passes along the rich wisdom of the traditional herb lore of Northern New Mexico.
Back in 1981, when the family started the business, Tina worked the morning shift with her two-year-old son, Francis. She remembers when daily sales of $25 was good! Rob worked days after his shift working as a Histology lab tech. Fritz "did the books" at the end of the day after his shift as surgical scrub tech and EMT at Holy Cross Hospital.
A wonderful thing happened one day in 1988 - Tina received her first paycheck from the business!
There has been no turning back. Today Taos Herb Company manufactures over 400 herbally-based items for a local, national and international market.
Since 1981, Taos Herb Company has steadily grown and served our local and now, worldwide, community. At Taos Herb Company we continue the tradition, manufacturing quality herbal products and providing the excellent customer service that we have come to be known for.
We believe in kindness to and respect for animals and do not use them in testing our products.
